How to participate

Become a member

The Atheist Union of Greece is its members. As its numbers grow, so does its status and influence. By becoming a member, you declare your agreement with its goals, as described in the Articles of Association and unite your voice with the voices of those who share the common vision of Separation of Church and State.

Membership benefits

As a member, you are entitled to access the members-only area of our Forum and our Discord Server (see below).

Financially settled members will have in addition:
– the right to participate in each year’s General Assembly and in the elections every two years.
gifts accompanying their yearly membership contribution

Become a volunteer

Get to know our Working Groups. You can join any groups for any amount of time and don’t have to commit to one of them. No special skills required. Anyone can contribute their time!

If, however, you have unique expertise, we are always in need of:
– accounting and legal advice
– translations and subtitling
– graphic designing
– video production and editing
– websites maintenance and app development
– social media moderation
– events planning and hosting
– news watch and parliamentary monitoring
– ex-Muslims support

You can submit your ideas, even if they don’t seem to fit in one of the working groups.

How do I become a volunteer?

Just check YES in the volunteer field in the membership application form. Fill in your profession and any other skills that you have in the comments field.

Can I be a volunteer if I am not a member?

Financially support us

The Atheist Union of Greece is financed exclusively by membership contributions and donations. We also cannot accept contributions and support from political parties or political of religious organizations (Article of Association #8). By contributing any amount, you help us carry on our work.

You can support us by paying the regular membership (yearly) or make a donation of any kind. Donations can be made by members and non-members alike.

Attend meetings or events

Athens, Thessaloniki

Around once a month, we organize meetings for coffee or food, that are open to our members and friends. We often include board games or pub quizzes! Our meetings are children-friendly and we make every effort to make them disabled-friendly. We choose places close to public transport.

We also organize , talks, book presentations, movie festivals, blood donation events, protests, parties, walks, guided tours, culture ans science visits etc.

The following events are organized yearly:
New Year’s Pie Cutting, on January or February
Open Supper, on Good Friday
Feast of the Spirits, on the Christian Day of the Holy Spirit
Daylight Meal (fast-defying), during Ramadan
Sun-Mas Dinner, on December 26

Every summer, we take part in the following festivals:
– Antiracist Festivals in Athens and Thessaloniki
Athens Pride and Thessaloniki Pride

Other cities

Our members organize -official or unofficial- events in other cities as well, although not on a regular basis. If you are interested in organizing an event, we will provide any possible support. If you just want to attend a meeting or get in touch with a local community, please let us know.

Participate in online discussions / events

Our Discord Server has dedicated channels about atheist topics and general subjects, while it also hosts online events from time to time. Members of the Atheist Union of Greece can request access to the Working Groups area, where a variety of projects is planned and executed.

Our Atheia forum is nowadays inactive, but it serves as a valuable repository of information gathered over several years. Members of the Atheist Union of Greece can request access to the Atheo-Diavgeia area, where official documents related to General Assemblies, elections and Secretariat decisions are uploaded.

Find resources

  • We maintain a collective blog in Greek as well as one in English. You are welcome to read the texts and contribute your own!
  • In our YouTube channel, we upload videos of our production. English subtitles are a work in process.
  • Our Atheism Library is a list of selected books and videos on atheism, agnosticism, religion, church-state relations, philosophy and science, focusing on Greek publications (either original or translated), but also including important titles in English.
  • In our IMDB page, you can find lists of movies and documentaries we suggest.
